FALL 2016
CEP 803A: Assessment of Students with Mild Disabilities
This course was taken during my teaching internship year. Course link Instructor: Dr. Gary Troia I used informal and formal assessment methods for planning and evaluating instruction and for classifying and placing students with mild disabilities. I learned how to engage with families to improve responsiveness to the assessment. I learned how to administer baseline tests as well as evaluative tests for students who are being assessed for special education services. I learned how to write clear Individual Education Program (IEP) goals that were obtainable and measurable. I also learned more about the Response to Intervention (RTI) process in this course.
SPRING 2017
CEP 802A: Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Special Education I: Mild Impairment
This course was taken during my teaching internship year. Course link Instructor: Dr. Emily Bouck This course taught me how to use qualitative and quantitative research methods on teaching and learning of students with emotional or learning impairments. It helped to understand and combat educational problems in special education. The course led me to design and assess studies of mathematics and problem-solving. This course also taught me how critical it is to have Response to Intervention (RTI) mathematic supports school wide.
CEP 804A: Literacy Instruction for Students with Mild Disabilities
This course was taken during my teaching internship year. Course link Instructor: Dr. Troy Mariage I learned the methods for teaching literacy to students with mild disabilities. I learned the importance of teaching all the steps of both reading and writing and the strategies that build the good foundation of those subject areas. I collected, analyzed, and interpreted data related to the teaching and programming of literacy instruction. I created an inquiry unit as well as a reading unit focused on research based methodologies.
SUMMER 2018
CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Course link Instructors: Mary Wever & Debbie McHorney-Enokian I was able to apply and integrate productive tools and web-based resources in educational settings to improve teaching and learning. I created my first professional blog that integrated videos, cited research based articles, and collected my thoughts on different my learning network connections. I was able to repurpose the world around me by creating experiences that were novel, effective and new. I used the Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework to repurpose technology in a new and innovative way.
CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technologies in Education
Course link Instructors: Melissa White & Rachel Matz I practiced the application of instructional principles and methods to educational problems in the K-12 classroom. I was able to development of technological applications which are interactive, multi-sensory, and innovative. I learned how to use a Maker Kit to enhance my lessons for my students. I created a virtual learning space that would all for my students and teachers to truly embrace my 21st century learning goals. I also created a multimodal infographic that provides a set of recommendations for educations that are informed by research and inspire the integration of Maker projects.
CEP 812: Applying Education Technology to Practice
Course link Instructor: Andrew Steinman I learned about applications of technology in K-12 settings. I used identification, implementation, and evaluation of technology-based solutions to solve educational issues in school settings. For this course I was asked to work with a Think Tank group to focus on a wicked problem that plagues the education field today. The wicked problem I focused on was allowing failure to be as powerful a learning mode as success. I also critically examined my “info diet,” collected data that will inform a deeper understanding of the culture of technology integration that surrounds my educational environment, explored ways to use technologies to support special learning needs.
SUMMER 2019
CEP 800: Learning in School and Other Settings
Course link Instructors: Dr. Diana Brandon & Brooke Thomas In this course, I learned that learning is an active, socially-mediated construction of knowledge in school, home, community, and work settings. I also learned that what is learned, how it is taught and learned, and what learners bring to the setting is very important and worth exploring. In this course I created my very first learning meme. I also dove into my own personal learning theory that lead to a personal product at the end of the course.
CEP 822: Approaches to Education Research
Course link Instructor: Dr. David Wong I learned alternative methods of educational research. I was able to identify researchable problems in education and develop a research proposal. I used applications of descriptive and inferential statistics for analyzing and critiquing published studies. By the end of the course I created a research review paper focusing on fidget spinners and multi-sensory supports in the classroom.
TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Course link Instructor: Kaitlin Glause In this course, I learned about developmental processes, instructional practices, and assessment principles that contribute to effective learning of reading and writing. I was also taught about the teaching methods for accommodating the different needs of individual literacy learners. Throughout the course I worked on a literacy learner project focusing on one student and their growth through assessments and lessons based on the assessment data. This course taught me the importance of analyzing data to make informed decisions, especially for my students who have special reading needs.
SUMMER 2020
CEP 807: Capstone Portfolio Course
Course link Instructors: Dr. Matthew Koehler & Aric Gaunt This course focused on a culminating reflection of my learning from the last three years. I put my journey to my Master's degree together in my capstone portfolio. This course helped me to reflect by developing a website to showcase what I have learned and what I hope to learn in the future. The portfolio I created allowed me to express both my creative and technology skills to future employers, educators, and parents. The portfolio is a representation of who I am as a teacher and how I became that teacher.
